The decision to move into an assisted living environment is not an easy one to make. You will have many questions and it helps to know exactly what is required by the state for these facilities. Listed below are a few of the state of Maryland and their important guidelines.

In Maryland, the Office of Health Care Quality oversees assisted living facilities. There are three levels of facilities allowed, which depend on the level of care they provide. The first level provides basic personal assistance, such as with chores and bathing. The second level provides daily living and minor health assistance, while the highest level provides daily living, health care, and memory services. To receive a license, managers must complete 80 hours of training and the facility must pass a Maryland inspection. Remaining licensed depend upon passing annual and semi-annual inspections.

The average cost of assisted living in Maryland is $3,900 per month. Maryland assisted living is typically lower when compared to neighboring states. Maryland is also more expensive compared to the national average.

What Options are Available for Assisted Living?

All facility with 50 or more residents are required to have an emergency back-up generator capable of running up to 48 hours. All facility are required to follow National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Codes. Fire drills must be conducted.
